We have been looking at all options and we hope this will help some girls in the future. We have looked at Junior College programs. There are some very good Junior College programs in Florida if you just need that extra training to get to the D1 level. I found these two web sites that give you some great information about all the playing levels. Athletic Scholarships and another Athletic Scholarships2 These are both recruiting websites but have some very good information. Most athletes say " I want to play D1" but do they know that there are three levels of D1, A, AA and AAA. Even NAIA schools have a D1 level and a D2 level.
There are some NCAA D3 schools that are very good and can compete with D1 schools. You need to do your research, just don't take the first offer that comes to you. You should visit the schools and if possible see a game. We recommend looking at the area around the school as well.
Videos of your games, training, practice are great tools. They can help to show your development.

Gold Diamond results
Alicia had an awesome weekend playing with the Charlotte Magic, she had a batting average of .666 and an On Base Percentage of .777. She was inches away from a home run, several nicely placed slaps and a line drive to left field. She is looking forward to the Early Signing Showcase in Myrtle Beach the weekend of November 15-17.
Surf City Showcase pictures
We have been trying to upload a video of highlights of the Surf City Showcase to the Youtube page but need to convert it to a different file type.
At one point there were over 25 coaches watching our games on that Saturday. Stiggy's Team TFS had given out over 50 flyers and had to have more made to give to all the coaches.
It was a very successful weekend. Both Coach Van Brunt and Coach Bastian said that Alicia has developed over 150% since last year and she continues to develop.

It's been awhile
It has been awhile since we have posted anything about Alicia Daly.
School started and she is busy with her academic schedule of honors classes and two AP classes. She did not take it easy for her senior year. In between all that she has signed up to do Reading Buddies again this year and volunteers as needed with Summerfield Recreational Association. She is currently visiting colleges, being asked to camps and going on overnight visits. She is still trying to find the right academic and athletic fit.
Along with school and the recruiting process, she continues to go to weight training twice a week with her trainer, benching about 75lbs and squatting about 130lbs. She comes out with her arms and legs feeling like jello. She attends hitting lessons with Gwen Johnson, practices with the Lady Lightning and sees Coach Bastian once a month.
Advice to young girls is to work hard in school. Alicia has so many schools looking at her academically. The colleges not only give out athletic money but also academic scholarships. The college coaches like it when you can say that their college is also looking at you academically. Many colleges have sent her the chancellor's application or invited her to special events to try to recruit her academically. Also challenge yourself in the classroom by taking AP or honors classes.
There are so many options to look at from the well known D1, D2 and D3 schools to high level JuCo programs that can be a start to get into a D1. Other options are discussing being a walk on with the coaches or discussing being a walk on with a Red Shirt the first year so that you can train with the team, get stronger and develop more. There is still so much to learn and so much that the average person does not know about the recruiting process.
Alicia is excited that she has been invited to the Surf City Showcase again this year in Huntington Beach, California. This tournament has a big turn out by college coaches. It is excellent experience because Stiggy"s Team TFS always makes sure we play some of the top teams in the country. Last year we had 15 college coaches watching at one time.
We will update you on game schedule for Surf City Showcase when it is posted. This is a panoramic picture of the field in Sunnyvale, CA when Alicia attended Nationals with her Lady Lightning team. The ground was hard and the ball really bounced. Alicia was used to that from playing in Colorado this summer.

Colorado Sparkler Tournament 2013
Alicia is playing this week for Coach Bastian's Team TFS International at the Colorado Sparkler tournament in the Denver area. She is play #1. Alicia went 2 for 2 in the first game with a great catch at center field and a sliding attempt at a ball hit to right field.
The second game did not go as well as the first and Alicia was playing outfield. The third game Alicia played second base and had two awesome plays. Coach Bastian was the coach for the third and fourth game. Coach Stigall was the coach for the first and second game. In the last game Alicia had a beautiful hit in the 5-6 gap and beat out the throw by several steps but the umpire called her out. She just smiled at the umpire and went to the dugout.

Spartansburg Update
The Lady Lightning Gold Elite- Glosson team got down to the last four teams in the tournament and then the rain came down. This tournament was a ASA Qualifier and we were trying to win for the berth to Nationals in CA. Coach Glosson is still getting to know how Alicia can help the team. Alicia ddid very well when she did get in to play. Her stats for the weekend was 1.000 in all areas. She got up to bat twice and had two nice hits. She caught the last out of a game and had some aggressive base running as a base bandit.
Tomorrow she leaves for the Scenic City 16U tournament. The Lady Lightning Gold Elite's first games are Thursday at 2:00 and 4:00.

Play- offs
Northern Guilford Nighthawks softball team is going on to the third round of state play-offs. The next game will be against Eastern Alamance at their home field. If the Lady Nighthawks should win that game they will go on to meet the winner of Williams vs. Johnston on 5/21. They have faced both Eastern Alamance and Williams in their own conference before and have won at least one game against them. Johnston beat Western Alamance whom the Nighthawks lost against. Can they do it?

So Much Happening
Yesterday was a busy day for Alicia. She went to a Volunteer Appreciation Tea at the Northern Elementary School where she volunteers as a Reading Buddy. Then some of the first graders that she works with at Northern Elementary School went to see her play softball. Several of them stood on the field with her while the National Anthem was sung. Then to top it off a college coach was at her game to see her play. That might be a common occurrance in other parts of the country but it is not in NC.
Earlier in the week she was asked by one of the Summerfield Recreational Association board members to help their 10U and 12U players with pitching and run some clinics for them. She was told that some of the local parents involved in softball recommended her. Alicia is very excited about helping younger girls improve their mechanics in pitching , hitting and softball.

Started a Ralley
Alicia started a ralley for her high school team last night with a power hit to the outfield which brought in a run and earned her a double.
It was a very cold night in NC for a softball game. The writer would not like to have been playing on that particular night.
Keep an eye on Alicia's Maxprep site to keep track of her high school season.

Working hard in all areas
Alicia working hard at Northern Middle School softball field last night with Coach Bastian.
This year so far Alicia had a 4.0 GPA in the first quarter and now a 4.2 GPA in the second quarter. After taking an SAT prep class, she brought her SAT score up about 140 points. She has been receiving many letters from colleges due to her academics.
She has gained 20 lbs of muscle by weight training with her personal trainer. Coach Bastain was impressed with how much strength her has now.
She is going on an Educational trip to Belize in June 0f 2014 and been appointed the ambassador and assistant to the teacher in charge of the trip.
She continues to train with Gwen Johnson and will be seeing Monti VanBrunt in February.

Brain Training
Many high school and travel ball coaches do not understand the importance of the mental game. The mental part of the game can be more important than the physical part of the game for some athletes. This is where sports psychology comes into play as well as brain training.
In college, an athlete is usually asked to think on their own, not only to react to fast moving balls but to think ahead about what they do will effect the rest of the game.
Here is a web site that I found that may help me explain it better. Braining for athletes. Another site would be Beyond Peak Performance.
So encouraging your athlete to do some Brain Training like at www.Luminosity.com is a good idea.

FAU trip and other info.
Alicia attended the Florida Atlantic University Prospective camp from December 20th to 22nd. She did very well in the scrimmages going 4 for 5. She hit everything just did not make it on base once. Her on base percentage was 800.
She worked on her skills at second base as well as outfield. She learned a few new plays and is hoping to use them during a game soon.
Alicia also found out that taking the SAT prep course this fall paid off because her score went from 1390 to 1530.
Alicia will be attending the Georgia Southern University camp on January 12th and participate in the Southern Star All-Star games.
Please look over Winter schedule to see what else she is up to.
